Camera/ movie techniques :

In this trailer, the director shows the most important moments of the movie to tempt to watch his movie. That's why, at the beginning of the trailer you hear the voice of the little boy, Carlitos who makes the narrator to told his story, you hear him but you don't see him : it's a voice-over. However, there are moments in the course of which you can hear dialogues between actors which are extracted of the movie.
During the trailer the music changes according to the actors' actions and feelings :

0:00 / 0:43 → sad music
0:44 / 1:00 → stressful music
1:01 / 1:19 → joyful music
1:20 / 2:05 → sentimental music

During the moment when the mother called his son by the phone there is a return between the characters which gives the impression to be in both place at the same time.

A summary of the trailer :

The movie « Under the same moon » is a story between a mother and her son.
In the movie, the Carlitos' mother has came to America to work illegaly for four years, that's why Carlitos lives in Mexico with his Grandmother but his « mommy » regularly called him. When his Grandmother died, he couldn't wait anymore and he decides to came to the USA to see again his mother. Unfortunately, there is a strict border control between Mexico and the USA. Thanks to a couple Carlitos, who is in a car trunck and who is terrified, succeeds to come the border and he arrives in America. However in the USA he is searched because he is a illegal immigrant and he meets a man who help him during his travel. At the same time, a woman called his mother and she says that Carlitos came to the USA to try to find her, the Carlitos' mom cries because she is afraid of the son's situation.
During the trip, Carlitos meets a lot of people and he wants to go to the mother's house by plane.

What the movie « may » be about :

At the beginning Carlitos don’t wait anymore when his grand mother died, maybe he hasn't any family in this country and he could find his mother. After a difficult cross of the united states border he meets a man. I think they work to pay the plane's ticket which allow carlitos to see again his mother. but carlitos is an illegal immigrant and the policemen search him. Maybe when the policemen find him the man save him although he doesn't like him at the beginning. Perhaps the man decides to help Carlitos to find his mother.
Probably they have a lot of adventure and the man become attached to Carlitos and a very strong friendship created between us. Chances are that at the end Carlitos find his mother and his mother falls in love with the man who has helped Carlitos. To finish I think they live in America or they return all four of them in Mexico.

French ? English ? Other ? Comparison with types of movies in France (music, story …) :

«Under the same moon» was a movie written in 2007 ans it's an American-Mexican drama film.
It's in Spanish and English, «La misma luna», directed by Patricia Riggen.
This movie is different between french movie because in France the parents no have needs to left their childrens to work in America or another country.
The music is also different because in France is more french music than in the trailer the music is mexican.
The french movie spoke more of the immigration of families or problems with the color of the skins or with handicapped persons. In fact, in France the immigration is less important than in the USA.

A summary of the trailer :

I will sum up the trailer “Under the same moon” without interpreting the story and the pictures.
A young boy, about teen years old, is lying on his bed and looking at the moon. At the same time a young woman, probably his mother, is doing the same thing. They seem Hispanic looking. Then we see the boy’s mother in an American town, working as a maid in a restaurant kitchen. The boy is still in his native village perhaps a Mexican village. He is having a wash outside his house among old tin of water. While the pictures are scrolling, he tells us his story : “My mother, when I miss you, I should look at the moon because she will be looking at you too. She is being working in American for four years. So she can’t bring her son.”
The mother calls her son from a payphone. We learn the boy’s name is “Carlitos”, she is crying during their phone conversation.
In the following scene : Carlitos is sitting next to his sick grandmother lying on her bed, and immediately after, we see the grandmother’s coffin brought by four men. Carlitos tells us : “when my grandmother die, I couldn’t wait anymore.”.
We see him hung on a wire fence, certainly the Mexican-American border. Two young people, who look like immigrant transporters, offer to Carlitos to across illegally the border by hiding him under the rear seat of their car. We see them at the customs and they have a control with a search in the car.
In the following scene, he is standing in room, an American flag in background. The next sequences of movie show Carlitos’s journey in America until he find his mother. He asks for help to a Hispanic man and make hitch-hiking with him. They are travelling in old bus with over illegal immigrants. Then they work in a restaurant. His mother is informed by a telephone call of a woman that Carlitos is disappeared. We see him in a public park, sitting on a bench while the police is catching him. The end of trailer is composed by several sequences of the movie.

Camera/Movie techniques :

At the beginning, we can see a cross-cutting : Carlitos and his mother Rosario are looking at the moon in the same time, both from their bed but in different places : Carlitos is in Mexico, his mother is in Los Angeles. The cross-cutting shows the strong relationship between the two characters. To put the stress on the fact that Carlitos and Rosario are separated, the cross-cutting continues, showing the daily life of each of the two characters : the Rosario's cleaning woman work, their frequent phone conversations… The music is quite sad, it insists on the separation between the mother and her son. When Carlitos' grandma dies, the little boy wants to rejoin his mom in Los Angeles : a long shot shows a car, with nothing around : the car is the symbol of freedom, the only thing that can make Carlitos and his mom closer.
When Carlitos is in the car to cross the border, there are almost only close-ups, who insist on the pressure during this scene. The music enhances this impression. When the police officer examines the trunk, there's a subjective camera : the camera is used to put the viewer in the place of Carlitos.
Then, there's a succession of shots that show what Carlitos is doing in America (his meeting with another illegal immigrant…), and one of them is especially fun : an over-the-shoulder shot that show the little Carlitos talking to a lady sitting at a desk, saying he wants to find his mother in Los Angeles, and his head tops barely the desk ! It may mean that Carlitos is almost nothing in the immensity of Los Angeles. But he's happy at this moment of the movie : the music is catchy. And then, another cross-cutting : the shots alternate between showing Carlitos and Rosario. The last two shots (Rosario smiling in the left direction, Carlitos smiling in his turn ; it gives us the impression that he has received his mother's smile) give us hope that they will finally meet again.

What is the movie "may" be about ?

After the viewing of the trailer , I think the movie is going to tell us a story about a Mexican son and his mother who is Mexican too and who go in the USA for 4 years in order to have a fairly well paid job. But when the grandmother's son who took care of him died, the son decide to immigrate illegally in the USA to rejoin his mother . And the true story begin here : I think it may be about the son's trip . In fact, in the tailer, we can heard that the openning scene begin with the son's voice as narrator , who build the foundation of the story with all I said just before . After that , we're seeing the grandmother's death, that's the triggering element of the story , and so, logically . Like in all the story, this one might follow the basic narrative scheme , and in this latter, after the problematic begin the biggest and main part of the story , the adventures . And so after the problematic of this story ( the tutor's death), the bulk of the film wich is showing in the trailer is the son's crossing of the border . Not yet finish .

French ? English ? Other ? Comparison with types of movies in France (music, story …) :

"Under the same moon" is a mexican-american film. He tells of the Mexicans immigrants life in the USA. It's different a French film, because the Frenchs needn't flee their mother country to find a work, a job. "La misma Luna" (it's the mexican name of the film) was released in 2007 : we can suppose that the history takes place in 2007, since no elements in the film allows us to situate the time. In this year, the situation in France is far better than in Mexico. This film was selected for the Toronto Film Festival. It's less important than Cannes Film Festival ("Festival de Cannes" in the original language). The reason is simple : the Canadian Festival is not a competition, unlike the French Festival.
About the music, in the trailer, we can hear banjo and some percussion. The banjo is a North-America instrument. So there is the American side as well in the scenario that in music. In addition, some French movies have the title of the principal music of the film. For example, we can quote "Pour le plaisir" (film of Dominique Deruddere and music of Herbert Léonard), "Marche à l'ombre" (film of Michel Blanc and music of Renaud), "Ma petite entreprise" (film of Pierre Jolivet and music of Alain Bashung), or even "On va s'aimer" (film of Alexandra Lamy and music of Gilbert Motagné), and a lot of others… But this form of banal simplicity is also found in American cinema. For example, there is "Pretty Woman" (film of Garry Marshall and music of Roy Orbison) or "Golden Eye" (film of Martin Campbell and music of Tina Turner). It's certainly representative of the music and the film, but I think two different names would have been more relevant. Let us remember of "The Bodyguard", a film of Mick Jackson, where two musics are now well known : "I have Nothing" and "I Will Always Love You", both sung by Whitney Houston. Admittedly no music of "La Misma Luna" is today known, but the music and the title of the film are complete instead of copying.
I prefer to watch a movie like "Under the same moon", which talk about the real problems. Indeed, many people are likely to be unemployed in Mexico in 2007 as today : they're all born under the same moon. In fact this film is a symbol of American freedom - economic and social - and also the symbol of the love between a mother and her son, which is a very important human value.
