Introduction
We are going to present to you our subject. We have chosen the 2020 Olympic games, which will take place in Japan, because everybody likes sports and because after the debate concerning Brazil's Olympic Games we think it's a good subject. We want to explain to you why it's Tokyo which was chosen. We think it's important information because everybody speaks about the Olympic Games and watches them on TV when they take place. In fact, it's good news and nowadays good news are rare.
Development
Tokyo, who had organized the 1964 summer Olympic Games, was elected host city of the 2020 summer Olympics Games by the International Olympic Committee to the detriment of Istanbul, on Saturday in Buenos Aires, whereas Madrid, the other final's participant, had been eliminated in the first round. This victory of an Asian city may lead to the victory of a European city in the 2024 edition of the Olympics, according to the principle of continents' rotation. The news of the Japanese victory which was announced by Jacques Rogge, president of the CIO, was welcomed by shouts of joy in Buenos Aires, where the representatives of Japanese media were present. In Tokyo, many Japanese applauded wildly, after a long night for the supporters who had watched a special broadcast, while some people from Tokyo burst into tears when they heard the name of Japan. The CIO that gave up exploring other new cities, new regions of the world like Turkey, had preferred playing it safe by choosing Japan. The Japanese will have to solve a colossal problem : the disaster of the power plant of Fukushima. In fact, the disaster shouldn't interfere with the organisation of the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. That's why Princess Hisako Norihito of Takamado arrived this week in Buenos Aires, as well as the Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, to try to reassure the members of the CIO and the whole international community on this point. Tokyo, which had failed to host the 2016 Games, had a well-organized sports project and robust financial guarantees. Besides 1964, Japan hosted the winter Olympic Games twice, first in 1972 in Sapporo and then in 1998 in Nagano.
If Tokyo resumed for the main part of the project defended for its application to the 2016 JO by bringing it some improvements I can't understand this part of the sentence , its Olympic ambitions benefited this time from a good popular support, which wasn't the case four years ago.
The Japanese capital explains its choice to relaunch in the Olympic running in 2011 to restore the Japanese's hope I can't understand this part of the sentence , which were shaken by an earthquake then by a tsunami which destroyed the northeast of the country and killed a lot of people in March 2011.
Convincing the CIO that in Japan the summer Olympics Games « will be in good hands », Tokyo has already bragged about putting 4,5 billion dollars into a special account in a bank to cover part of Games' equipment spending. 20 Olympic's infrastructures ( among them 9 for a temporary use ) out of the 35 Olympic's infrastructures must be built.
A stadium of 80 000 places with a retractable roof and which will look like a spaceship will be built at a cost of 1.3 billion dollars
Conclusion
The Spanish capital, which has a national debt of 7.4 billion euros, had offered a « low cost » project but the CIO didn't accept this project because of the economic situation of the country.
Istanbul, the Turkey's capital, has never organized the summer Olympic Games.
That's why the members of the CIO had voted for the Japanese capital.

Many speculate that Japan shouldn’t hold such a large event due to the Fukushima nuclear power plant meltdown after the large earthquake. The Fukushima plant is 150 miles from Tokyo, but Japan’s prime minister has addressed the issue that no one has been sick or affected by the meltdown which is the worst nuclear meltdown since the 1986 Chernobyl incident. Japan has spent nearly $500 million to try and stabilize the nuclear plant by building an ice wall to stop radiation infected groundwater from spreading. But japan still won the bet because of past events that they have held, such as 1972 in Sapporo and Nagano in 1998 which were both winter Olympic Games, and 2002 World Cup.
In my opinion, I don’t believe that Japan should hold the 2020 summer Olympics. First off just because nobody has shown signs of any radiation, but that doesn’t mean the jet stream could carry possible populated air and start causing health risks. Also a country in Asia already has had the summer Olympics, and should let some other country host is, yes many countries have money issues and don’t have as much freedom with money. Also Japan has had lots of major sporting events, two winter Olympics and a world cup, I think they should spread the wealth a bit and let a country that hasn’t had the chance to hold an event hold one. A reason for the Olympics is games yes, but the larger scale is to show the world what history, culture, a patriotism you hold and if we keep giving the same countries the chance to hold the events then we just know about them and not about the other smaller or not as rich of a country.

Hi Corbin Ranck,
Thank you for your comment and I hope that my answer is comprehensible and without a lot of mistakes ! :D
In my opinion, I think Japan could organize the 2020 summer Olympics games because it's a rich nation, but the organization of Olympics Games will cost billion dollars and in times of crisis, chances are that it isn't the government's first priority. Maybe the event will let to knit the population and people will forget the disaster.
However, I agree with you, the other countries should have the chance to be the host of Olympics games because many countries have never had Olympics games' organization while they're financial means to held them. :)
Corbin is right to an extent. Japan wouldn’t host or be allowed to host a large event like that without being tested for the radiation. Chernobyl was a serious event and was handled the way it was with the technology that they had back then. Technology has improved quite a bit so, in my opinion it is great that Japan is going to host, yes it will cost a lot, but it is a good image impact on Japan, showing that they are willing to take on something that extreme. Japan is like every country out there they all have their good and bad, up and down and we shouldn’t hold that to them when we have all been there.

Hello Hannah,
Your comment is very interesting because like Corbin you have a different position about the 2020 summer Olympics games and this messages let to confront the different opinions.
The power plant of Fukushima haves many problems and the japanese don't arrive to stop them. A area of 20 km is contaminated by the radiation and I things that if the japanese don't resolve the problem of radiation, the situation could give a bad image to the foreigners who want to go in Japan to the 2020 summer Olympics games.
Would you like going to Japan if you know there are problems of radiation ?
Corentin :)
From my view I think that every country will have a problem if chosen to host the games in the end. All three of the top countries have some sort of issue to deal with on the side that could affect the Olympics. Personally I say Istanbul should have gotten the chance too. They have never held them and even know there is a crisis in the Middle East the games could have helped that. Sports tend to have a unification effect on people. For example the 1980 USA Hockey team in the Winter Olympics and the South African Rugby team both unified their countries during a time of crisis.

Hi gabeg1111,
You know normally what's happened in Brasil with the coming of the world championship and JO and they prefere spend in their stadium than the education of their childrens of this cuntry and i think it's just stupid and i think they must to do in rich country and between us the japan is very overcrowd and they don't have th received olympic games for the happy of the japans
Jarod :-)
Hello Gabe,
Many countries will have a problem if chosen to host the games because we're in times of crisis, but some of them have more money than others. I don't know the history of Istanbul but I believe you : Istanbul should have gotten the chance too.
I completely agree with you about the unification effect. I thinks that people take advantage of the games to forget daily problems.
Corentin :)
You also have a point on the radiation situation. Would I want to go there, sure I just wouldn’t make a point of spending all my time in that one area. However, there are several parts of Japan and you may go there to watch the Olympics but it doesn't mean you are confined to that one area.
People might not realize day to day troubles such as the radiation, and I agree they do take advantage of the games without really thinking about their surroundings. However, if they do that would be a major impact on the Olympics because people will be afraid and won’t go. Japan is a two sided sword, there is no real ability to win, just the ability to analyze. Would I still go? Yes. Would you?
Hello,
Yes, I would like going to Japan because I love sports and because you can see many different sport's competitions in a short time. And I would like discovering the country because in my opinion it's a country with a important history. But some of persons not think like us.
Hi hannahc1111,
I am just agree with you on all you say because i think same because when you the in France when it's a little pollute is very hard to inhale so in japan with 2 millions persons in the street with car and motorcycle it is going very difficult for japans to live in THEIR city because it is not possible to live normally in this same conditions
Hi,
I agree with you but later I think not that Japan let us show the Olympic game just quoted nuclear power plant even if that contaminated every Japan and after it are olympics thus many persons will go all the same.
Hello,
I agree with Gabe on the unification of countries due to dramatic and emotionally driven underdog teams and Japans had a great couple years with the women’s soccer team wining the world cup and I think they got far in the London Olympics. And it would be great for japan to host the country after a traumatic event such as the earthquake and tsunami they suffered. But I still hold my opinion of let’s let some other countries have the glory of holding and event. Another opinion, I think Canada should hold another one instead of Russia this upcoming winter Olympics. GO CANADA!!!!!!! Oh another thing i forgot to mention is they better reinstall wrestling back into the summer games here soon i know they said in 2024 but they better do it sooner… I mean come on who in their right mind would take out one of the oldest sports that was actually apart of the true Greek Olympics just cause it is rough, really???
Written by Corbin Ranck
Hello Corbin,
The 2010 winter Olympics games was already hold by Canada and I think it's very important to change the host country, even if I prefer Canada instead of Russia to hold the 2014 winter Olympics games too.
Wrestling like the others combat sports are a important part of the games because some of them are old and I think that like you they should reinstall wrestling earlier. I love combat sports like tae kwon do, boxing and wrestling, and you ?
hi cjrh17,
I agree with you when you say let some other countries to have the glory Because seen the works has to make they would do better to spend on reconstructing or trying to lower the pollution that to spend on JO. Japan has very huge numbers of persons and with all the fans who are come it is coming to be intolerable
Jarod :-)
hello,
I think the japan is more rich and have more good technologie than istanbul and maybe istanbul has not the money for welcome the olympic game no ? But i am agree with you the poor country can have some glorry too and perehaps the olympic cam was good for the economie of the country
AS lestrat c10 I like combat sports, personnaly i make of boxing and you ?
Antoine :-)
The summer Olympic Games being heal in Japan can have a real controversial effect with people and countries. I personally think that the games should be held in a smaller country that has not gotten to hold them yet. I think that there are a lot of other countries that have the ability to hold them games but are never picked because of how small of countries they are. I can’t pick an exact country but I think someplace like Sweden should get the chance to hold the games.
If we give another country to hold the games I think it will let the competitors a chance to just focus on the games and not focus on the wars that are going on around the world. The fans of the games are going to be less angry if it’s not in a country where there might be some controversy like the problems Japan has had with its nuclear plants.
written by Elizabeth Rabenold
Hi Elizabeth,
That's right the choice of the host country for the Olympics Games is a difficult choice and mostly the organizers decide to choose a rich country.
The problem of the smaller countries is that they haven't many money (except a few countries of course, like Qatar which is a very little and a very rich country) and the organization of the Olympics Games costs a lot of money.
If Sweden will is candidate to the future election, I think they will have a good chance of win the election.
Corentin :)
Hi elizabethr1111,
I agree with you when you say all the country have a chance to recieved olympic games but just imagine a liitle country same japan with millions of inhabitants it's just impossible to live when all the fans are coming in the street all the car are going to stop the life on tokyo are going to do a break except for traders who their figure of business are going to growing up very speedly. But when you says Sweden i more agree because sweden is very developed and Sweden is the only country has credit note still triple A in europe and the world too
Bye ;-)
